Abstract

Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is characterized by vasogenic subcortical edema, and its pathogenesis remains not well understood. Here we describe a patient of neuromyelitis optica (NMO) combined with Sjogren¡¯s syndrome (SS) presenting PRES. The patient had relapsing-remitting optic neuritis and myelitis and acutely developed confusion and hemiparesis. Brain MRI revealed massive subcortical lesions. Autoantibodies and diagnostic tests satisfied the diagnostic criteria of SS. Anit-aquaporin-4 antibody was positive. Common water flux impairment may predispose NMO and SS to PRES.
